A Day of Exploration: Shaniwar Wada and Pune Adventures
Date: December 18, 2022
Introduction:
Embarking on a journey to explore historical sites and iconic landmarks can be both exciting and unpredictable. Join me as I recount my solo expedition to Shaniwar Wada in Pune, a day filled with twists and turns that made for a truly memorable adventure.
Morning Hopes:
With the promise of discovering the rich history of Shaniwar Wada, I set out from my home on the morning of December 18th at 10:10 AM. The plan was simple: a local bus ride to Khopoli, followed by a visit to Shaniwar Wada in Pune. Little did I know that the day would take unexpected turns.
Change of Plans:
As I eagerly boarded the local NMMC bus from CBD Belapur to Khopoli, I received a call from my friend. Due to unforeseen personal issues, he wouldn't be able to join me. Adjusting to the change in plans, I decided to cancel my exploration of Khopoli and got off at Panvel.
Onward to Pune:
At 11:00 AM, I hopped onto a State Transport (ST) bus bound for Pune. The journey was marked by a token halt, during which I indulged in the local flavors, treating myself to a scrumptious vada pav for Rs 30. Despite a minor setback due to bus and driver issues, I finally reached Pune at 3:00 PM.
A Walk Through Pune:
With the distance from Swargate to Shaniwar Wada being 3.5 km, I decided to take a leisurely walk. Along the way, I stopped for a refreshing fruit juice worth Rs 25 and stumbled upon the historic Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir. Pune's charm was unfolding before my eyes.
Shaniwar Wada: A Mixed Surprise:
Reaching Shaniwar Wada at 4:00 PM, I was greeted by an unexpected sight—a massive crowd. Battling through the throng, I secured a visiting ticket for Rs 25 and entered the fort's premises. To my astonishment, what stood before me was a modest garden and the remains of the fort's compound wall. It turned out that much of Shaniwar Wada had been destroyed years ago.
Guided Insights:
Undeterred, I decided to make the most of the situation. I hired a guide who not only shared insights about the historical significance of Shaniwar Wada but also helped capture my journey through photographs.
Return Journey:
At 5:30 PM, I began my return journey to Swargate, and on the way, I treated myself to a refreshing lassi worth Rs 30. The queue for the local bus at Swargate was extensive, prompting me to opt for a private bus at a cost of Rs 500. During a halt, I satisfied my hunger with burgers costing Rs 70 and a coke for Rs 40.
Homeward Bound:
By 9:00 PM, I was back in the comfort of my home, reflecting on the whirlwind of experiences that had unfolded throughout the day. The journey might not have gone exactly as planned, but it was an adventure filled with unexpected encounters and valuable lessons.
Conclusion:
As I look back on my solo journey to Shaniwar Wada, I am reminded that travel is not only about visiting destinations but also about embracing the unexpected. The twists and turns along the way added flavor to the day, turning it into an unforgettable adventure. The images I captured, the people I met, and the stories I heard all combined to create a tapestry of memories that I will cherish for years to come. And so, with a heart full of gratitude for the experiences gained, I eagerly await the next chapter of my travel adventures
